Placement-

Bootcamp- Nov 2022

Throughout bootcamp we spent time speaking to industry professionals about how to get through the door into the industry. They told us about programs we can join and how to gain confidence in the industry. We later on in the day went onto complete our 'Coronavirus basic awareness on production training' and also 'Health and Safety on Film & TV Health and Safety on Film & TV' getting certificates in both these.

Tenable- Pinewood Studios- 8-10 Nov 2022

For the first week of placement I got the amazing opportunity to be working on set of the game show Tenable at Pinewood Studios. During my time at Tenable I gained a lot of confidence in my work and myself, as I from my preparation of my Year 14 course my knowledge was a lot better than other opportunities I have had. I gained skills in teamwork as we worked as a makeup department to make sure everyone was out of the dressing room at the time we needed them out. I was luck enough to get the opportunity to do makeup on contestants everyday I was there, the makeup was their makeup they came with but with some TV & Film touch ups. Such as I learnt to powder balled men's heads as they show up shiny on camera, and that there's no shiny makeup step foot on set as it shows up as sweat on cameras. I was able to communicate with the HOD on tenable and got the chance to be shown behind the scenes, inside the lighting room to see how the lighting crew works along side makeup. I gained knowledge on certain products in which they swear by for on set such as the MAC translucent pressed powder for them balled heads! I made sure to get on set as much as possible and get my hands stuck in to any jobs I could get even if it was the coffee run haha! I helped out by steaming clothes when I had finished doing the makeup and putting on washes for the set bags to be cleaned. I had the challenge of getting people out of the makeup room on time, even with such short time to do their makeup in the first place. This job was also really long days with 3 shows a day, so this gave me some insight into how long the days can be! I managed to stay calm and put on a happy face towards the contestants even got a few laughs out of them!  I loved this work experience and wish to go back sometime! I gained a lot of confidence in myself and really saw an insight on the job I want to dive myself into!

Disney Westfield Disenchanted flash mob- 16 Nov 2022-

This placement was a opportunity I got doing makeup for multiple dances taking part in a flash mob for the new disenchanted movie, this took place in Westfield shopping center, London. For this job there was 3 makeup artists and 40-50 people to get through in an hour, this really tested my confidence and my time management skills as I had to give myself no longer than 5-10 mins with each person. As this was a flash mob this means these people we were doing makeup on were meant to be normal people and then start to dance, so I asked them what their character was and then had to come up with a makeup look for this on the spot. This included characters such as Christmas elves, cleaners, shoppers, tennis players. Because of this I had to learn to act quick and think up looks on the spot, I really enjoyed this and loved working under such fun pressure. I would love to do something like this again, it really tested your time management and how consistent you can be with working at such quality standards. This helped to gain my confidence and show off some creativity of my own work.

"You are not alone"- short film- 17/01/2023

This short film I was set as the main MUA, for my role I was given a breif and I had to make 2 looks from these briefs. This was fun to do as it gave me some independence in my work and I got to do what I thought would look best for the character and then actors. For this short film I had to keep up with my communication skills as because I was the only makeup artist there and on set this means no one else is looking out for mistakes. Meaning I cannot miss any! This meant I had an eye on the actors at all times and making sure I was letting the crew know when I needed to go do some touch ups on set. I also had to learn to fully understand a call sheet and this is how I knew who's makeup I was doing and where, as I definitely didn't want to be late anywhere! This shoot helped me to gain independence in myself but also gain communication skills as I was forced to speak to other areas of the industry. This shoot was overall really fun and I enjoyed the brief and the amount of independence in myself I gained.

Halo- 14th November - 9th December 2023-

This project was working for the Hertfordshire Police working on a short film about the importance of seeing the signs of sexual harassment and abuse online and how dangerous it is. This was an amazing opportunity to work on, we worked as a makeup department to come up with looks which fit accurately the brief we had been given by other areas of the college.  The entire process took 5 weeks including the storyboard and the filming, we created design sheets for a first look for the three main characters, Angel, Jennifer and Benji, we created a few different design sheets, changing slight things after trialing the looks in person, we worked closely with costume so a lot of the time when we were trialing looks we were also thinking about how it would look with their outfits or in some cases both of our departments worked together to change things so they worked better together. Angel and Jennifer had many different looks in the film including an everyday look, a party look and a sfx look for after the fight. I wasn't there for the initial designs to be made as I was on my other placements during this period of time. We delt a lot with time management as we had groups of 20-30 students coming in at a time needing their hair and makeup done with only 4 of us to do the hair and makeup. We managed to handle this well without any stress and was able to get the students to all listen to us and have the brief met on their hair and makeup look. There was around 6-7 makeup department members present everyday, which happened to be too many for on set so 2 at a time went on set and the others waited patiently in the makeup room waiting for people who had been sent back for touch ups. Throughout the dates of filming we did end up changing some looks a tiny bit as they didnt fit along with the lighting or didn't look how expected, these were easily changed and completed easily.
